Hand-thrown on a potter's wheel, this vase is made of clay with thick fireclay, made using the pit-firing technique. This method involves firing the pottery directly into a pit or fire, surrounded by natural materials such as wood, leaves, or sawdust. The fire, smoke, and varying combustion conditions create unique patterns and subtle discolorations on the vessel's surface.
The vase has an organic, irregular form with delicate waves created during the turning process. The colors are subdued and earthy— warm reds and light pinks gently transitioning into the graphite and black fire marks characteristic of this type of firing. The surface retains the natural roughness of fireclay ceramics, emphasizing its handmade character.
Due to the firing technique and natural porosity, this vase is not intended for use with water . It can be used with live flowers by placing a glass vessel inside.
