A Weekend with Clay – What the Wheel Throwing Workshops at Boscoo Ceramic Look Like

Weekend z gliną – czyli jak wyglądają warsztaty toczenia na kole w Boscoo Ceramic

Hi, this is Darek from Boscoo Ceramic 👋
Today I'd like to tell you what our time together looks like during our potter's wheel workshops . Because while you can talk about clay for hours, it's best to simply feel it—but before we meet, I'd like to tell you what it's like for us.

A little about the place and about us

Our studio is located in Gąski, near Warka. It's a peaceful place, surrounded by greenery, where time moves a little slower. The air is filled with the scent of wood, coffee, and clay – a haven for those who want to escape the everyday and make something with their own hands.

I, Dariusz Leszczyński , lead the workshops. I've been making ceramics for years, and I know one thing: it's impossible to get bored working with clay. Each piece of material behaves differently, and each encounter with the students brings new discoveries. Ania helps me, making sure everyone is comfortable and calm, and that no one leaves on an empty stomach.

First meeting with the wheel

When you come to a workshop, we usually start with a short chat over coffee. We spend a moment getting to know each other, loosen up, and only then do we sit down for the circles. There's no rush—ceramics don't like pressure.

First, we learn how to center the clay —how to "set" it on the wheel so it doesn't wobble in every direction. Then we move on to shaping —bowls, cups, mugs, and sometimes even vases (though those can be fickle 😅).

Each participant has their own station and their own circle. I'm always there – offering suggestions, demonstrations, and sometimes even rescuing when the side of the vessel starts to rebel 😉

Workshops are not just about turning

For me, the most important part of all this isn't the actual rolling. What happens in between —the conversations, the laughter, the focus, the silence—is what creates the atmosphere of our meetings. People often arrive stressed, but after a few minutes with the clay, everything melts away.

Meanwhile, Ania bustles around the studio, bringing tea, something sweet, and sometimes lunch. She makes sure everyone feels cared for. Because we believe that you can only sculpt well when you're relaxed .

What's next for your work?

At the end of the day, we set the pieces aside to dry. Some turn out perfectly, others a little crooked—but that's precisely the beauty of them. After the workshop, I'll fire your vessel in the kiln (to a bisque), and then you can pick it up or have it shipped.

It's a wonderful feeling to hold in your hand something that was created from a piece of clay thanks to your patience and concentration.

Accommodation and climate

If you're traveling from afar, we have two rooms for you in the house next to the studio. The room is simple but cozy, with a view of the garden. Accommodation costs 120 PLN per night , and in the evenings we often sit together on the terrace with a cup of tea and talk about everything—not just ceramics.

This is the kind of weekend after which you can really rest your head and hands .

Price and duration

The workshop lasts two days – Saturday and Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The price is 800 PLN and includes all materials, firing, drinks, small snacks, and, of course, my supervision (and Ania's – unlimited kindness 😉).

Why is it worth coming?

Because clay teaches patience. Because rolling is like meditation. Because you can get dirty and no one will blame you 😄
Because you meet people who – just like you – simply want to make something beautiful with their own hands.

So if you feel like this is something for you, I invite you to Boscoo Ceramic. Come visit. Sit at the wheel. Pause for a moment.
You'll see – it really changes your perspective.

See you at the clay,
Darek and Ania from Boscoo Ceramic 🏺
